BOTOX® and DYSPORT® Compared

If you follow health and beauty news, you’ve probably heard all the buzz about DYSPORT® – a new injectable wrinkle treatment that some are saying delivers results very similar to BOTOX®. Boston area patients of SkinCare Physicians have the opportunity to find out for themselves, since we proudly offer both of these exciting products.

BOTOX® Cosmetic has been safely used for more than 20 years, and effectively and temporarily creates a smooth, more relaxed looking appearance at an affordable price. At SkinCare Physicians, we have found BOTOX Cosmetic to be an excellent treatment that lives up to the hype. DYSPORT is very similar to BOTOX – both are forms of botulinum toxin Type A – and it has been used to treat neurological disorders in Europe and elsewhere around the world for more than 15 years.

One of the most promising claims made by the manufacturers of DYSPORT is that it often takes effect more quickly than BOTOX, with visible results in as few as 1 to 2 days, versus 3 to 5 with BOTOX Cosmetic. This may be a deciding factor if you want to look good for an upcoming event and time is a consideration. The cost of the two treatments is about equivalent.

DYSPORT may create a smoother look related to greater spread around the injected site. Many of our patients who are happy with their BOTOX results are sticking with the original, but others are opting to give Dysport a try to see if it has any advantages for them. The bottom line is that both of these very similar products provide excellent improvement in lines and wrinkles with minimal discomfort and no downtime.
